HELPFUL HINTS
Here are some helpful hints to make your life a little better in your new home.

HOME REPAIRS

If you plan to repaint a room that requires patching, mix your plaster with some of the new paint.

When wallpapering, smooth the wallpaper with a paint roller instead of a brush. It works faster and does a better job.

Have a small hole in your window? Try filling it with clear nail polish until you can replace it.

Try this if your radio has a lot of static... Cut a small rubber sponge into four equal pieces. Place one piece under each corner of your radio.

WINDOW WASHING

Coffee filters are excellent for cleaning glass. They leave no lint.

To keep your windows free of frost and ice, rub inside with a cloth or sponge dipped in alcohol. Buff until dry.

For a diamond-bright shine, rub freshly washed (and dried) windows with a clean blackboard eraser.

BATHROOM HINTS

Have a slow drain? Pour one cup of baking soda into the drain, then add one cup of vinegar. After a few seconds, follow up with a full tea kettle of boiling water.

Test the accuracy of your bathroom scales by weighting a 5 or 10 pound bag of sugar or flour.

Stainless steel and chrome bathroom fixtures become sparkling clean if you wipe them off with a tissue that has been moistened with a little rubbing alcohol. The alcohol evaporates immediately, leaving fixtures spotless.

LAUNDRY HINTS

Dry your sweaters on an open lawn chain. The webbing allows air to circulate through the sweater so it dries faster and holds its shape.

To remove moth ball order, place garments in your dryer with a sheet of fabric softener and a damp washcloth. Dry in 5 minutes.

Want fluffy sweaters? When washing sweaters, put a small amount of creme rinse in the final rinse water. Result -- a soft, fluffy, sweet-smelling sweater.

When you need a mini-washboard for some hand washing, use the coarse teeth of a comb. Just put a bit of detergent on the clothes, then use your comb as a mini-washboard.

Pillow cases and lingerie will have a delicate, lasting order if you sparkle a little cologne on your ironing board before pressing.

CLOSET-CARE

If your cedar closet no longer smells like cedar, lightly sand its surfaces. Sanding opens the pores and restores the odor.

Bundles for beds. After washing and drying bed sheets, fold the bottom fitted sheet and the top sheet together. Then, wrap the matching pillow cases around them. This helps keep your linen closet organized.

FOR YOUR OVEN

Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of your oven. When it gets messy, throw it away and the bottom of your oven will stay clean.

For an easy way to clean food spills in an oven, soak a paper towel in ammonia and lay it over the burned food. Cover with plastic wrap. After about an hour, you can easily wipe away the mess without cleaning the whole oven.
